FOOD!

FOOD FOOD FOOD!!!

Most people will often group Asian food together as one generic mixture of rice and chopsticks. However, not all asian countries use the same ingredients or prepare food the sam eway, even though rice is considered as staple food throughout Asia. Shanghai is no exception. Shanghai has unique food that although isn't completely their own, has been modified to their liking and have developed traditions with the food. They vary from high class gourment food to normal peasant food. Shanghai's cooking is most known for their flavorful and heavy use of spices and sauces in the dishes. Soy sauce and unlike traditional Chinese cuisine, sugar is often used to take out the sourness of a food. And what be even more surprising is that sugar and soy sauce are used together for that reason. Although rice is used as a main side dish, noodles are eaten just as much as rice in Shanghai. And since Shanghai is a seaport city, seafood is often included in dishes, like crabs, crayfish and squid. The typical Shanghai chef will "marinate" the meats in various alcohol and use the technique called "Red Cooking" for stew. Shanghai is also known for their famous Shanghai fired noodles which resemble french fries.
